Inspired by a scene from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, this painting shows the fairy king and queen, Oberon and Titania, and possibly the character Puck. Fittingly, the play was filmed entirely at Compton Verney by Peter Hall a century later, in 1968.
